A Rare Profile in Courage
My interview with Pamela Hemphill “The MAGA Granny” had two elements I think are noteworthy: the first is the social power of conformity in the MAGA world over its members. The second is the disinformation bubble that sustains them: Pamela was told over and over Joe Biden would usher in communism and a host of other horrors.
But the final, and most hopeful element is that sometimes, the spell is broken. Pamela was there on January 6th, 2021, broke the law, was arrested, convicted, and served her time. As a sign of moral character, she’s rejected Trump’s pardon. She’s taken responsibility, and that’s a sign of real courage and character.

As you say “courage is contagious” and Pamela, you have plenty.
“Courage is contagious”. Along with Bishop Budde, Miss Pamela is telling the truth to us about MAGA and the everlasting lies told to us by the liar in chief and his congressional cronies. During the 2024 election, I truly believed women would denounce the fascists, that women would be upset by losing rights and would fight tooth and nail to keep them from being re-elected. That didn’t happen. While I would never have an abortion, I know that I have no business telling others what to do with their bodies. I was discouraged by the many women who voted for the scum in the Republican Party. You all know the story so I won’t elaborate. But after witnessing Bishop Budde offer her compassionate plea for mercy ( and seeing her sooo strongly criticized by 45/47 and his congressional cronies), and now hearing, in her own words, Pamela’s story and her willingness to tell the truth, I believe again in the power of women, and the men who support them, and know that, though we will have dark days, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
