Democrats Get The Messaging Memo

I haven’t been able to get your circular firing squad imagery out of my head. As a lifelong democrat, yeah. We totally do that. I’m glad Kamala is appealing to the center and to disenchanted conservatives. We need a coalition more than ever. But I’m in Texas and Project 2024 is well underway. The dems can trot out women who’ve suffered unspeakable harm since roe was overturned but that does nothing for those of us who are worried about our kids getting raped and forced to endure pregnancy, or the people whose dreams of parenthood have been destroyed because it’s too high risk to be pregnant here.
The trans community is in a state of emergency and that affects the people I love directly. I teach at a public university that is besieged by Abbot’s constant posturing, which has harmed students, the community, and the university at large in multiple ways. The point of this is, what can we do to get the ideological circular firing squad to not throw us to the wolves?
I hate Netanyahu and his goons and I want a ceasefire, but I’m not going to withhold my vote for the only candidate who has a chance to start to undo the direct, constant harm being caused by rogue state governments backed by a corrupt SCOTUS.
Texas is #2 in GDP and #48 in child health. That’s where we STARTED. It’s getting worse daily. Every time someone comes at me with, but kids in Gaza, I’m like yes! That shit is unconscionable. But I also don’t want my trans kid to grow up in this hellscape, and I don’t want my fantastic, brilliant, diverse Texas students to face an unrecognizable future where democracy has been handed over to crazed oligarchs. I’m all for speaking truth to power and ending the madness of supporting Netinyahu’s stupid crusade. He’s every bit as corrupt as Putin or Trump or whatever other asshole wanna be dictator you can name. But can we elect the not murderously insane person and pressure her instead of abandoning the huge swaths of Americans suffering right the fuck now? Can we do both things? Even with a democratic majority it’s going to take years to undo this mess. If you let Trump be elected it will be your mess, too. Get it together, Dems.
Tim Walz, although younger than I am, reminds me of my late dad and FIL. Theirs was the kind of quiet masculinity that didn't need defining, that looked out for their families and friends, helped out neighbors, never met a stranger, and wasn't afraid to cry when the situation warranted. Fortunately, they raised their sons to be the same way.
I don't understand why so many men, especially down this way, seem to live in a box about an inch square that dictates every aspect of their lives. Maybe it's a product of life in the bible belt, but there's a rigidity and judmentalism that leaves men around here with anger simmering just under the surface at all times. Life in the box doesn't seem to produce happy, secure men.
I'll take the Tim Walz version of manhood over JD CatLady's any day of the week. IMO, Walz's masculinity is genuine, while Jim Dave's is performative. One is happy, the other is clearly miserable.
