I grew up in PA. and I got many of my deepest values from that upbringing. I'm shocked by how many Pennsylvanians are supporting Trump. He's a sociopathic traitor who has no appreciation or love for our country! What is wrong with these people? ???!
Thankful I was able to hear this interview. I have loved Fetterman since he was in Braddock and love him even more for being human and sharing that with ALL. Pennsylvania loves you John and we will keep working for you as long as you work for us. SO PROUD!
Oh and also if anyone knows someone or they know someone who actually lives in Montana 😂😉🧐 please share the regards that Rick and senator Fetterman they hold senatorTester in
I have been a fan of Fetterman since I saw a story about his economic development work as Mayor. I live in Hawaii, but am on the phone to family and friends in PA.
I really enjoyed listening to Mr Fetterman and his down to earth responses Nice to hear a Real Politician admit at first what he is and let you decide if you like him
I love John Fetterman so hard. I was so proud to have voted for him in both the primary and the general and it's hard to fully express my admiration for him as a person. He's recovering from both a major stroke and major depression, putting one foot in front of the other every day, confronting the pain and living through it. Doubtless his heroic example prevented an untold number of suicides.
John is a tremendously empathetic man and is better at seeing through to the heart of Trump supporters than many of us in the anti-Trump community which is why he's on such a knife edge about Pennsylvania (Josh Shapiro would have given us an optimistic, we'll-blow-'em-out pep talk).
I also think John suffers a bit from Impostor Syndrome, feelings of profound unworthiness which is also a consequence of such tremendous empathy and sense of responsibility to his constituents. But he's been steadily getting better, one day at a time, and it's been a profound joy to follow his progress.
John's very interesting ideologically. As mayor of the horrifically depressed Rust Belt town of Braddock, he supported Bernie in '16. He got a lot of attention for the lefty ways he governed that town, including shunning much of the town council because they weren't interested in change. He brought in archetypically lefty programs, getting help from wealthy donors, setting up a free store / cashless trading post, replacing street signs with humorous meme wisdom. Very much an early-70s counterculture vibe. By '22 he had endorsed Biden but was still running as a left-populist and hard lefties were thrilled.
But then he got into the Senate, and I wouldn't say he changed because I think all these things organically integrate into his worldview. But he began pissing off the progressive left. He very vocally stood up for Jewish students during the campus Gaza protests, not because he supports the Israeli government's conduct of the war or the IDF but because it's wrong to attack and threaten Jewish students as if they were stand-ins for Bibi Netanyahu. TYT, the Majority Report, soured on him. He's also extremely concerned about border security not to pander to his constituents, but because it's a legitimate concern for a lot of people, especially those in depressed towns where a surge in immigration might solve a worker shortage, but still brings lots of adjustment and growing pains. And it is of course possible to talk about border security without demonizing and otherizing migrants; John and Kamala are on the same page here.
When he got on that debate stage with Oz, right after his stroke, using his subtitles app because he couldn't process the words auditorily, it was just such an incredible act of courage. Instead of seeing a disabled man struggling with his speech, his voters saw a true hero. We saw a man overcoming a fierce challenge and we elected him decisively.
One thing that illness and disability can give a person is a sense of humility. Recovering from a CVA and major depression is no small task, even if you DON"T have here and now responsibilities. No one shows up to vote in your place in the Senate when you're home sick. I can hear by Mr. Fetterman's sentence structure that he hasn't fully recovered. He is still searching for the correct words, but you can get his meaning nonetheless. He may have reading and writing difficulties, but any and all of those are different than intellect and character. Having survived and being in recovery from health challenges like this can add a dimension of compassion and advocacy for others that can only be achieved by personal suffering.
Thank You, Rick for sharing this with us today. The state of Pennsylvania is a crucial one for the Democrats to gain the majority in the House and Senate. You're doing the Hard Work for the American people and I appreciate you!! 💯👍🇺🇸💙🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

I love every word of this comment. And I have deep respect and admiration for John Fetterman.

He was the WOW guy last election, I’m from MN but I knew him and was cheering for him, you are lucky to have him and I can see you know it!

And yet he retains his sense of humor, which he always had, and which does not seem to be diminished by the stroke.
Completely agree.
