It was a civil trial for damages ($$) and not a criminal trial. Only in criminal trials can someone found guilty of rape be placed on the sex offender registry.
It's a nice ad. Also "God made a dictator," is a nice ad. But the people I know who are voting for Trump in swing states in deeply red areas are well aware that he's an asshole and autocratic. They don't seem to care about that as much as "his policies," which might be code for deregulation and tax cuts. It's also that, from what I've learned, some very religious Christian people do think he was sent by God. I'm quite close with such a person. It took a while for me to to understand what she meant by "his polities." I saw her talking on Facebook and she was saying to her other friends, "we prayed for a Christian and he sent us Trump." She's never said that to me and we're very close. So I think "God made a dictator," just feeds into the belief by some people that he was sent by God. These people are unshakable unless you can make the case that hiring him would represent a hazard to their health.
Apparently, all we need to do is send a couple of bucks to Nikki Haley to be ‘permanently barred from the MAGA camp’. What a deal! But I need to know, is it a day camp or a sleep away camp? And does it have a big sandbox for Baby Don to kick the dirt around?
I was monitoring my physical reaction to the ad. Increased heart rate, lightheadedness, odd gut sensations. Guess Bessel van der Kolk was right about the body keeping the trauma score 😐. That said, please do an update. I’ll trade some transient discomfort for truth telling. Go git ‘im.
Just saw the Bulkward memo about Steve Schmidt’s campaign with Dean Philips. This seems like a giant middle finger to the supporters of the Lincoln Project - feels like a punch in the stomach. I have trouble understanding why someone would do such a thing. Your thoughts?
Steve Schmidt is a cool cucumber. He was easy to watch during the pandemic and family separations when everyone was so emotional. Schmidt could talk about everything deadpan. Like other people who are cut from the same cloth, he looks much better from far away: distance is the key.
I was a major contributor to The Lincoln Project (or so Schmidt told me). I was impressed with him initially. I signed up for a class that was billed as two seminar sessions. I had to drag the name of the book we were supposed to read out of his assistant.
His class was like this. First, we had to respond to articles he wrote. Anybody who didn't give him a paragraph or two with gushing praise was treated harshly. That would have been okay if he had had a sense of humor about it. He cannot laugh at himself.
He always got money out of me. I started thinking about what Cleckley said. Cleckley identified the Psychopathy syndrome initially in his book, "trhe Mask of Sanity." Cleckley said he could always identify a psychopath in retrospect because that would be the person to whom he'd lend money. Anyway iI stayed for the discussion portion of the class since I'd already given him money. I read 500 pages in a couple of days between the other things I did. I came ready for a discussion. Steve Schmidt taped me in an ambush. As soon as I got on Zoom it said that I agreed to a list of demands. I have never had anything like that happen to me in my life. I've made TV appearances and been filmed as an expert and this was over the top. He ripped right through my rights. He wasn't even there. The next session he showed. He didn't apologize or say where he was the first time. I don't think anyone showed to the 2nd session but me and him.It had been billed as a discussion group. I made an interesting point about the Citizens of London. He just stared into my eyes and said, "Everybody is anti-Semitic." I was stumped. In retrospect, I think he wasn't prepared and it was a bullying power move. Then finding out about his spending habits and his lack of respect for his ex-wife and what he did to Maggie Haberman - I felt guilty for having financed him. I don't know if he contributed anything intellectually to The Lincoln Project. It seems he'd be difficult to work with. I made a little PSA about him and people were pissed and told me he was "irrelevant." I said that I thought he would be a villain of some moment. He's smart, well-read, a master of human nature and completely ruthless. I'm not savvy enough about politics to understand the import of what he did with Dean Philips. It felt like a giant "fuck you" to The Lincoln Project. I'd be interested in knowing if they thought he was important to producing the ads like "mourning in America." I'd be interested in Rick's comments on that.
it's on Rick's Substack. It's a video of Tim Miller. I couldn't watch the whole thing. I realize at some point that Schmidt seemed to enjoy "getting over," on me. It felt like some sort of power game. This is what happens when we're living in difficult times. There will always be scammer to meet you at the bottom. It brings out everyone's vulnerabilities and some heroism.
On the Laid, Paid and NDA’d. I believe that trump doesn’t remember. He will have molested women and girls hundreds if not thousands of times but for the women and girls, you never forget. It is burnt into your brain. That’s why I believe women.
So if he winds up being the nominee, he doesn't want the votes and donations of everyone who previously supported Haley? Ten bucks says at that point, he'll do a 180.
anything he says, next day he'll say he didn't say it, or he'll say the opposite, or he'll say someone else said it too, or he'll just say something even more outrageous, and we all move on to the next Big Lie from America's Great Leader.
words are meaningless to him, other than to say what his followers want to hear.
To me, the most puzzling thing isn't this wannabe Strongman, it's the millions of otherwise sane Americans who believe him.
He's known for not sleeping at night (who knows how much time he sleeps during the day). But it is also well known in medical circles that poor sleep causes mental decline. He's showing that decline and I would add that his decompensation is showing too. There isn't much left of his mental capacity, not that there was much to begin with. But ads by TLP is having a toll on his cognitive functioning. Keep at it, you've done very well in showing how far down the rabbit hole he is.
yes, TLP is getting to him, keep up your hard-hitting ads. We know he's watching them; he can't help himself; the Narcissist-in-Chief has to look at anything and everything about him.
Carol is right; keep chipping away at his declining cognitive functions. One of these days he's gonna really blow it, and FOX and his apologists will have a real hard time defending him. Go Rick Wilson, Go Lincoln Project!
Side note: I hadn’t seen Abuser before; hats all the way off to you on that one. I realize God made a dictator may still top it, but it’s a masterpiece regardless.
Exquisitely fine art with a gut punch. Showing all those unsafe places is both subtle and devastating.
I'd like to know why he's not on the national sex offender registry?

Someone should do "Laid, Paid, and NDA'd" as a Country Western song. But who would do a thing like that? 😈
Missing a finger on each hand. He has six fingers.

I've heard she's staying in because she's counting on cholesterol or conviction for Trump
I'm thinking Mr. Cholesterol will be tapping him on the left shoulder before the DOJ finishes its good work.
Great work Rick! Behold the strength of "The Lincoln Project!"
Also, great piece, as usual.

Schmidt is a grifter. Rick has made some pointed comments about him.

Which memo? If you have a link I'd like to read it.

Davos and Wall Street have already made the decision to cuddle up to him just in case. They have much more to lose from a second trump presidency.

May he indeed.
