It's worthwhile to pause and consider there's (at least a pretense of) a Republican primary going on. None of the other candidates played any role here except for Trump. Even for the brief period you had Emmer as Speaker Designate he went straight to seeking Agent Orange's endorsement. They're clearing the way for his nomination. Whatever influence he's lost within the party he's regaining.
Once the Republican convention rolls around red MAGA caps strapped so tight they restrict blood and oxygen flow to brain will be part of the mandatory dress code.
Something fun I noticed: Johnson is a Creationist, the 10'000 year-old Earth kind. Even helped Ken Ham and AiG's eyesore of a museum. So long as the Democrat spin doctors actually try there's no end to anchors they can put around the Republican party.

This is among the best, if not the very best, adjective filled description of the republican party I’ve ever read. The fact that Johnson does not look or behave like a “mouth breathing jadrool” is what makes him so dangerous. This was truly a terrible day, ending now with another tragic mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine. I hope that the American public got a taste of what is going to continue ad infinitum if they foolishly vote these pathetic excuses for representatives back into office.
You know, I sometimes have to remind myself that these GOP congress critters didn't just decide to become attention whores because they like it, they're attention whores because it gets them (re)elected. Marjorie Australopithecus Greene is apparently very popular in her district. So rather than reserve my vast distaste for these attention whores, I will remind myself that the real problem is that voters seem to like 'em. And once we have voters who think that re-electing people like this is a good idea, what hope is there? Those voters are lost to reason, to democracy, to fairness. They're entitled assholes whose child-like understanding of the world is killing the country.

I hate that the mainstream media will book Johnson on their shows. This, as you said, will normalize his extreme views. Additionally, it gives outs to the so called “moderates” because of their willingness to bury the hatchet with MAGA members. It’s a win-win for Trump, MAGA, and the “moderates”. I think additional aid to Ukraine is off the table. I also fully expect a government shutdown in 3 weeks.

So Ukraine is fucked, the government will shut down and god knows how much other damage these lemmings will inflict because they're too busy generating soundbites to actually do something.
And many of them are popular in their districts! No wonder they don't believe in evolution - too many counterexamples....
So what do we do now? I confess I am as exhausted as this dumb conference. I (almost) have no fight left in me. I know that is what they want...for us to give up, but honestly, I don't know how much longer I can take this shit. It is 13 months to the election and another 2 months after that for the damage to continue. Please tell us our best options to stay in the game.
Maybe Andy Beshear wiping the floor with a MAGA boot licker Daniel Cameron in a couple weeks in deep red KY will give you some renewed hope. I know it will help my mental state.
The media will normalize this nightmare (apparently they don't believe that a party that is openly contemptuous of the press will impact their futures in any way).
More people are getting their news from online sources that range from uninformed to grotesque propaganda.
The proliferation of third parties adds noise to the fraught mix.
