Why is trump not in jail? How is it that he slimed out of yet another judgement. Or got it postponed?

Music for Trump is comfort food, the aural equivalent of a Big Mac, and his philistine musical taste isn't any more surprising than his teenage diet. What's endlessly amusing is how many pop stars have sent his campaign cease and desist orders. Trump is really _that_ intellectually incurious as to not bother to comprehend the _lyrics_ of his favorite Springsteen, Tom Petty and Rolling Stones. Like, does he understand that Les Miserables is an _indictment_ of the sort of person Trump is and the world he wants to bring back, that the protagonist is a _homeless person?_ Music for him is simply a nostalgic time association, content irrelevant, as sadly it is for so many people who aren't serious fans. And let's note that there isn't any Motown, let alone R&B, let even more alone hip-hop, on his playlist.

Trump is an early boomer and his salad days in the Gomorrah of NYC are precisely the world the culture warriors say the boomers created to destroy America. Trump was never involved in the counterculture, had no conscience about Vietnam (except to brand our dead soldiers "losers and suckers") but his character epitomizes what Tom Wolfe in the 70s called the Me Decade. Peak Trump in the 80s occurred in a city ravaged by drugs, crime, the porno village of Times Square, quasi-competent machine politics governance. Trump railed about this for the tabloids and then went out partying all night with trust fund drug casualties at Studio 54. His favorite music is precisely from this milieu, when NYC was second only to San Francisco as a wingnut touchstone for cultural decadence.

The boomers continued to settle down and raise families and the reaction against their counterculture youth that gave us Reagan and Poppy Bush began to moderate by the 90s. Trump was leashed by his bankruptcies, put on an allowance and you'd think if he had political discontent he'd be bellowing it from his perch as prime tabloid copy, but he seemed pretty happy with the Bill Clinton era.

The lost world his playlists evoke is the world his supporters want to destroy. Kind of delicious ;)

Bellissimo 🥀

I’m a Rodgers & Hammerstein fan, but I dabble in all the show-tunes. Can I interest you in a bit from Bob’s Burgers where Gene sings about farts? 🍔

Donald is so filthy and gross. I am not amused. (I’m Amusezd.) It’s weird that he likes Andrew Lloyd Webber. Bad Donald! [sprays water at The Monster 👹]

What a great post, Rick! I must add - as a lover of Broadway musicals my seven decades on this planet - Andrew Lloyd Weber is THE most craptastic purveyor of what passes for decent Broadway shows who ever had a "hit." And the height of craptastic: Cats! Well, one craptastic hack sure knows another craptastic hack.

Great add and the soprano has good pipes. I do think you need to hold a parody song contest

Reading this we know the property values were overstated but we do not know if the accompanying mortgages are based on the overvalued assets. If that is the case, and there is a default due to seizure, what impact will that have on overall real estate markets?

With the new bond set st $174-176M let’s see if he can cough up that much cash As of yet unknown. He has 10 days. Let see if anything goes on the market at fire sale prices.

LOVE LOVE LOVE "The Phantom"!!! Brilliant!

The parodies from Evita and Phantom are hilarious.

I have written several similar lyrics to familiar songs--from American Songbook standards "(It Had to be Me,) "Give me a Nation for My Plaything") to 1950's rock n roll ("See Ya Later, Perpetrator") about the orange abomination which I believe you and the voters would enjoy.

I would love to work with LP to get these songs produced. Mockery can be an effective political weapon, and we sure need all we can get.

Let me know if you are interested.

First, Rick, my accounts got hacked and I'm waiting for new cards. How do I update my payment when I get new card? There's no phone number on the listing on my Visa bill.

Having lived most of my life within trump's squawk box and at one point, written for Spy Magazine where trump was the butt of many a joke (to prove what a cheapskate he was, they would send him checks for like $7.09 to see if he'd cash them and he did), I was gobsmacked that anyone believed a word he said after galumphing down the escalator to announce to a roomful of cheering hired extras.

Like most people in the tri state area, I know several people who got stiffed by his criminal corporation, one an artist who created a huge order that he refused to pay causing a completely cruel and unnecessary bankruptcy besides his own. I think I mentioned this before that I would like to see an ad with some of his victims outing him as a life long cheat. As his cult is addicted to his BS and rejects factual information like snakes shedding skin, I don't think it would penetrate the hardest hit, but it's worth a try.

Still, we're talking about people who think it's normal for a self described billionaire to beg his followers for contributions no matter how small($7.09, fine!) and now that he has captured the RNC for a direct deposit without go-between Ronna who occasionally felt responsible to eek out a few rubles for the team, he will be getting the first chunk of money of every donation, because he is the Republican party circa 2024. I don't think we've seen a surrender this profound since Hitler offed himself in his bunker. Something similar to suicide is going on there.

Speaking of Hitler, who is enjoying a resurgence thanks to trump's authoritarian ambitions and fandom, I have the news in the BG and just heard tubby claiming that if was president there would never have been a Hamas attack?!? In fact, I think the go around the Palestinians and giving his fellow indicted authoritarian-light pal, Bib, every indulgence to appropriate more and more territory contributed to the rage that fueled that heinous attack. Given that, it appears obvious that his response to a grotesque terror attack that Bibi was warned about would have been to give him every license to do as Jared mused about, raze Gaza and build a gigantic resort along the sea. Note that Israel in the midst of this cruel and over the top response managed to find the time to grant even more land to settlers in the West Bank in direct defiance to Biden's warning.

He also claimed there would not be a Ukraine War, equally specious given how much he interfered when president and how angry he was at Zelenski for not doing his bidding. Again, I'm pretty sure he would have officially and not just through the lunatics in the House allowed his true love Putin to have his way, ditching the EU in the process.

All that being said, I can honestly say nothing would make me happier than seeing him cash strapped and exposed as the naked wanna-be Emperor he truly is.
